Les Pleurs de la Canne d'Eau [WIP]

A sad cataract :

Exercise to work my photo editing workflow.

The digital painting Les Pleurs de la Canne d’Eau is inspired by the Shaun Ryken’s Sad Nature Series.

I loved the combination of the eye and the flower, so I chose the Dahlia as much for its etymology as its shape.
But, I didn’t want to tell the same stories or express the same moods. And that's why my colors are less bright, my contrasts less strong and that the image seems to be lacking vibrance.

I was looking for realism and imersion.
So I played to fade the shadows, to color them in cold and complementary tones in comparaison to the warm colors of the petals.
I think it brings out a feeling of poetry, dream and sweet sadness that pulling the drawing towards the fantasy illustration.

I also combined effects of blurriness and vignetting to give the image relief and dynamism, while accentuating the attention on the crying eye.
